Helene R. Hill, 96, of Asheville died March 15, 2017 In Ashville, NC. Helene spent thirty years with the National Division of the Department of Community Centers, Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church in Ohio, Delaware, Florida, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Michigan. In June 1950, she was commissioned a Deaconess in New York City and was consecrated in Central Pennsylvania Conference in 1950 by Bishop Bromley Oxnam. She was consecrated a Diaconal Minister in June 1978 by Bishop Edsel Ammons in the West Michigan Conference. She was with the Association of Certified Social Workers since 1965. She retired from full time ministry in June 1986 but remained very active. She did Peace Work in Retirement, securing a school bus for Colegio Bautista, Nicaragua. Helene retired to Ashville in 1995.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 30. 2017 in the chapel of Brooks-Howell Home, 266 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, NC with Reverends Howard Hanger and Alycia Johnson officiating.
