Grand Blanc clergy invite statewide vigil

Candle at vigil

Following the horrific mass shooting in Grand Blanc, United Methodist pastors in the area are hosting a community prayer vigil on October 1 and invite Michigan United Methodists to have a vigil of their own in solidarity.

REV. CAROL BLAIR BOUSE
Halsey UMC, Grand Blanc

On behalf of the United Methodist clergy in the Grand Blanc area, I, along with Rev. Brian West of Grand Blanc UMC, am reaching out with an emergency appeal to all United Methodists in Michigan.

We know that many people have heard about the tragic events of Sunday, September 28, in our community. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc was the location of an active shooter and was purposely set on fire.

This has rocked the Grand Blanc community. Multiple people have died and been injured. Over the following 12 hours, multiple bomb threats were called into churches and schools around the community; thankfully, all were false alarms.

As a religious community, we wanted to do something to support one another. Grand Blanc UMC, with the support of Halsey UMC and other local congregations, is hosting a prayer vigil on Wednesday, October 1, at 6 pm ET for the greater Grand Blanc community. Before the vigil, we will have a community meal at 5 pm.

We invite all our siblings in faith across Michigan to join us from where you are. Please stand with us in solidarity by gathering with your friends and family at 6 pm on Wednesday, or as soon as you are able. We realize this is a last-minute request.

You may also watch our vigil at 6 pm ET via Grand Blanc UMC’s YouTube channel. Watch the prayer vigil now.

Thank you for joining us in prayer and solidarity. In the days ahead, please continue to pray for the Grand Blanc community, and please pray for peace and understanding to take hold.
