Gerald L. Toshalis

March 1, 1944 – July 11, 2023

Retired Elder, Rev. Dr. Gerald “Jerry” L. Toshalis, passed away on July 11, 2023.

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the death of Retired Elder, Rev. Dr. Gerald L. Toshalis, who passed away on July 11, 2023. We will miss his loving, kind, encouraging, and insightful presence, as well as his warmth and companionship.

Many have known and appreciated Jerry’s gifts as a United Methodist pastor in Michigan. Previously, as a pastoral counselor, he provided individual and marital counseling and administrated two Samaritan Centers (Elkhart, IN & San Diego, CA). Since returning to Michigan, Jerry has provided spiritual direction and consultation for churches in conflict or transition. And, throughout his career, he was also involved in contemplative leadership, community organization, staff development, strategic planning, conflict resolution, trust enhancement, and polarity management.

Jerry is survived by his wife (Barbara) of 57 years, his sister Leanne (Terry), his son Eric (Sarah), his daughter Kristine (Dione), and two grandsons, Mason and Griffin.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, October 14 at 11 AM at Kalamazoo First UMC, 212 S. Park St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
