Expand your cultural competency

IDI Together, a three-part online workshop, begins on September 24. Using the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), learn why cultural competency is important and develop a plan for ongoing growth, all within a supportive community.

This fall, Lisa Batten and Rev. Cora Glass will lead IDI Together, which aims to bring together people interested in learning about the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), an assessment tool that measures an individual’s and a group’s set point as it relates to intercultural mindset and behaviors. Learn more about the IDI.

Three Thursdays, September 24, October 1, and October 15, from 6 to 7:30 pm ET. The workshop fee is on a sliding scale. Do not let cost prevent participation.

The Michigan Conference is committed to living out God’s call to build beloved community — God’s vision of justice, mercy, and love for all people. Equipping local church leaders to live into that vision more fully is the purpose of this offering.

IDI Together is designed to build capacity to shift cultural perspectives and adapt behavior to both differences and commonalities. The first session will cover the IDI and how it measures and promotes greater cultural competency. The second session provides dedicated time to complete the inventory online. Each participant will then debrief their results with a qualified administrator. The third session explores what we can learn from our results and possible next steps.

Anyone who has not yet taken the IDI or has taken the assessment more than two years ago is invited to join this online small group. Sessions will be held on Zoom.

The facilitation of IDI Together is made possible thanks to generous financial gifts from local United Methodist churches in Michigan through Ministry Shares. Thank you! Learn about the impact of Ministry Shares on mission and ministry in Michigan and around the world.
