Doris Crocker

April 18, 1936 – February 26, 2024

Pastor Doris Crocker passed away on February 26, 2024 at the age of 87. She was born April 18, 1936 in Hutton Henry, Durham England to Walter and Violet West. Beloved wife of the late Wesley. Loving mother of Stephen (Sally) and Jonathan (Debbie) Crocker. Dearest grandmother of Daniel, Michael, Noah, the late Ian, Joy, Hope, Mercy (Kyle), Malachi, and Ezra. Dear sister of Diane (the late Ken) Thompson. Doris is preceded in death by her siblings Phillip, Vera, Cynthia, Betty and Billy.

With humble beginnings, Doris was born the oldest child of a coal miner. After living through World War II in England as a little girl, Doris earned her college degree in mathematics. After marrying Wesley in 1959, they moved to the Shetland Isles to pastor several local churches spread across several islands. Following the birth of Stephen and Jonathan, the family moved back to England where they pastored several church districts throughout northern England. During this time, Doris became a math teacher, rising to the head of the math department for a local high school before switching careers to become a computer programmer in 1977.

The family moved to America in 1979 to pastor to a country church in Alamo, MI before Doris finally responded to God’s call whereupon she returned to university in her 50’s to earn her Master of Divinity degree, and pastored churches in the Detroit United Methodist Conference.

We celebrate her rich life. She lived a life that mattered. Doris had a deep and abiding faith in her savior, Jesus Christ. As a pastor’s wife and pastor, she often drew alongside others to celebrate their victories and comfort them during trials. She was wholly devoted to family, and a staunch encourager of her husband, children and grandchildren. She will be cherished as a fierce defender of the faith, remembered as a skilled knitter, and loved by family and friends for her unwavering devotion.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM EDT at Belleville First United Methodist Church, 417 Charles Street, Belleville, MI 48111 with a luncheon to immediately follow at the church.
