A life that made headlines

Eight United Methodist bishops, friends and colleagues gathered at Ann Arbor First United Methodist Church on December 12 to remember and honor the life of Bishop Jesse DeWitt.

Speakers celebrated DeWitt’s deep faith and told stories of his life in an auto factory, on the street marching for justice and in the sanctuary seated in his favorite pew.

The day’s main message, shared by Bishop Donald Ott, drew on the story of Zacchaeus. “I see Jesse in what Jesus did that day,” Ott said, ” … Jesus was curious about the man up the tree.”
