Samuel Carter Sr.

Please hold the family of Samuel Carter, Sr. in prayer.  Samuel passed away on January 2, 2019.  He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Charlestein “Dot” Carter.  Samuel filled in many times over the years in the pulpit for several churches such as Waterford: Four Towns, Grosse Pointe, Madison Heights, Pontiac First, and First UMC of Ferndale.  He was Chairman of the Commission on Religion and Race for several years, he resigned due to failing health in 2013. In 2012 he received the President’s Award The Beloved Community.  He was the lay leader for many years at Oak Park UMC in Oak Park, MI.  At his passing, he was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Ferndale where he served as Lay Servant, President of Administrative Council, and member of the Board of Trustees.
 
A funeral was held at First United Methodist Church in Ferndale earlier this month with interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking to consider making a donation to First United Methodist Church of Ferndale c/o Sam Carter Scholarship Fund, 22331Woodward Ave., Ferndale, MI 48220.
