Rev. Bruce M. Denton

Rev. Bruce M. Denton, age 68, of Lake Orion, died on Sunday, May 5, 2019 after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Detroit, Michigan and got his diploma from Thurston High School in Redford. He graduated from Adrian College and married his high school sweetheart, Jeannine (Churchill) in 1972. They moved to Evanston, Illinois where he completed his Masters of Divinity degree at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary and was appointed to serve Iron River United Methodist Church in the Upper Peninsula as his first pastorate. Subsequent moves took him to United Methodist Churches in Harrisville, Lincoln, West Branch, Birmingham and Flushing. He retired from Lake Orion United Methodist Church where he was senior pastor in 2012. He loved history, music, humor, computers, and remote control flying.

He is survived by his wife Jeannine; sons Michael (Terri) and Christopher Denton; and granddaughters McKenzie Denton, and Tori and Taylor Beaman. He was preceded in death by his parents Douglass and Evelyn Denton; and brother Dale.

A celebration of the life of Bruce will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 11am at Lake Orion United Methodist Church (140 East Flint St., Lake Orion, Michigan 48362). The family will receive friends on Friday, July 12, 2019 from 4-8 pm at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home, Lake Orion and at the church on Saturday from 10-11am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lake Orion United Methodist Church Building Fund. Condolences can be sent to Jeannine Denton, 2401 Canoe Circle Dr., Lake Orion, MI 48360.
