August 26, 1931 – September 13, 2025
Wife of Rev. Dr. Myron K. Williams, Maudy Luella Williams passed away peacefully on September 13,2025 in Estero, FL.
Born August 26, 1931, at the family home in Rolla, Missouri to Charles Alvin Wynn and Iva Arrena Feeler Wynn.
Her husband and the love of her life for over 70 years, Reverend Doctor Myron Kent Williams preceded her in death in May 2023. Maudy met Myron Williams at a summer youth camp in Sebewaing, MI in 1951. Myron and Maudy wed June 20, 1953, the hottest day in Detroit history. So hot the candles in the church melted.
She is survived by her children: Sharon (Dan) Webb, Chuck (Lorie) Williams, Bradley (Lori) Williams, six grandchildren, sister Charlet Hemme and brother-in-law Howard Williams.
Maudy was a graduate of Wayne State University with a degree in Education and Music. She was the first in her family to graduate college. Maudy taught grades K-12 in Ohio and Michigan. She taught piano throughout her life. Maudy and Myron served the Evangelical United Brethren and United Methodist parishes in Dayton, OH; Ludington, MI; Sodus, MI; Vicksburg, MI; Holt, MI; Hastings, MI and Wyoming, MI. A total of forty-one years of ministry and service.
She was an excellent cook who fed gatherings of hundreds of people at churches and festivals. Jesus had nothing on Maudy; with a box of rice and a chicken thigh she could feed the multitudes. She loved to entertain. Maudy would invite every parishioner in every parish to the parsonage for dinner.
She lived a lifetime of service. Maudy was the organist, pianist, choir director, youth leader or anything else that was needed at the church. She was a leader of the United Methodist Women’s Association and performed across the Midwest as a pianist and vocal soloist. She had an amazing voice. One of the founding members for Love Inc. of Barry County. She served as President and Vice President of the Greater Grand Rapids “Church Women United” and was Co-Chairperson of the Church Women United State Assembly. She was also a member of the Church Women United Nominating Committee and Executive Board. Chairperson Conference Committee on Nominations United Methodist Church, Lay delegate to the Jurisdictional Conference of the United Methodist Church 1988-1992. Chairperson Board of Directors Grand Rapids Community House, Chairperson of the 60th State Assembly of Church Women United. Member of the conference committee on rules of order UMC, President.
Her ability to find the positive in any situation and never say a cross word about anyone were simply extraordinary. She was a staunch supporter of women’s rights and civil rights. Maudy was a very outgoing person who loved to be around people.
Maudy loved to fish, you would never hear the end of it if she caught one bigger than you. She crocheted, sewed and tended flowers. While she would never allow her children ice cream for breakfast, she would feed her grandchildren ice cream for breakfast at every opportunity. Her ability to stretch a penny was legendary as were long summer camping trips.
After retiring from the ministry, Maudy and Myron wintered in Mesa, AZ and summered at the cabin in White Cloud, MI. In the ministry they lived in parsonages their entire life. The cabin in MI called “Our House” was the first home they owned and was very dear to Maudy. They frequently traveled and camped in a small motor home in their later years and she loved it. She reveled in her grandchildren’s achievements.
Her gift of music was so strong that at the end, with a total loss of memory, she could still play the piano without sheet music.
Maudy was the epitome of joy, laughter, love, music, kindness, service, faith, wife, mother, grandmother. One of life’s great souls, she will be missed.
