Pastor Alger Thomas Lewis passed away in Boca Raton, Florida on August 5, 2022 at the age of 93.
Alger dedicated his life to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ; it was his greatest passion. He studied at Midwestern Baptist Seminary. Alger began his career serving as the Pastor of Avondale Baptist Church in Rochester Hills, Michigan. He continued his work and devotion with the United Methodist Church in Michigan’s Thumb area where he served for nearly 40 years at seven churches in the region.
Alger most enjoyed spending time with people and was a great listener. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and golf.
He will be deeply missed by his loving family. Loving husband of the late Ruth Lewis and Beatrice Doone-Merena. Devoted father of Dawn Houghten (Ken), Marta Lewis, Thomas Lewis, Vanessa Robar (Joseph), Matthew Lewis, Rebecca Ewell, Candace Clyne (Roger), the late Karin Isbell (the late Neil), the late Debra D’Angelo, and the late Angel Lewis. Caring grandfather of 20 and great-grandfather of 11. Dear brother of 10, survived by Alfred Lewis and Ruth Fisher.
