Matti Richard Koivula, 62, of Mesick, passed away on Wednesday, May 15thsurrounded by family and friends.  Matt is survived by his wife, Rev. Laurie M. Koivula, who has served most recently at Brethren: Epworth and Mesick United Methodist Churches.  Matt was born March 4, 1957, in Ypsilanti, to Arvi and Juanita (Cook) Koivula.  He attended Technical School and spent his life troubleshooting and repairing computers in various industries.  His favorite was his last place of employment which was Detroit Public Schools.  He loved putting smiles on the faces of the children.  Matt loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren   He was an avid reader and enjoyed helping others.  Matt was an active member of Mesick United Methodist Church.  He was baptized and became a member of the United Methodist Church on Easter Sunday 2016 at West Goodland UMC in Imlay City. 

Matt is survived by his wife, siblings, children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, friends and his church families along with his constant four-legged companion who would never leave his side, Ziggy. He is predeceased by his parents, brothers and sister.  The most important things in his life was his faith and his family.  He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and most importantly Papa. 

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, July 20th at 2:00 pm, at the Faith Macomb United Methodist Church, 56370 Fairchild, Macomb with Rev. Dianne VanMarter and Rev. Penny Nunn officiating.  A barbecue will be held after the service on the grounds of the church and all are welcome to join in this celebration for a wonderful man.

Memorials can be made to your local church to support children and youth programs or to Mesick United Methodist Church, 121 S. Alvin St., Mesick, MI 49668.
