Michigan United Methodists are invited to deepen their understanding of the pursuit of justice and peace for Israelis and Palestinians. The Task Force Promoting Justice in the Middle East of the Michigan Conference Board of Justice invites you to a book talk and discussion of Rooted in Faith and Justice, edited by Rebekah Choate, Krista Johnson Weicksel, and Peter Makari.
About the book
The book gathers the voices of prominent Palestinian Christians who help clarify the issues in the Holy Land. Their topics include Christian Zionism, colonialism and settler colonialism, apartheid, and occupation. Five sections move from historical, contextual, and religious background, through the realities of modern-day Israel/Palestine, to perspectives on how to move forward. Each chapter offers clear, concise explanations of key concepts to ground our understanding of the conflict in scripture and to help us stand in solidarity with Palestinians.
Reading the book is helpful but not necessary. It is available for purchase from your favorite bookseller or your local library.
Your presenters
Rev. Rich Peacock is a retired United Methodist pastor who has long been active in promoting our Social Principles. He is a leader of Peace Action of Michigan and chair of the Task Force Promoting Justice in the Middle East of the Board of Justice.
Rene Johnson is a member of the Board of Justice, Task Force Promoting Justice in the Middle East, and Midland First UMC. She is the Social Action Coordinator for the Michigan Conference United Women in Faith, and she will lead the discussion.
