Finding help and hope through Omada

Greetings! I’m Debbie Thomas, Chairperson of the Health Committee on the Board of Pension and Health Benefits, as well as a pastor in our Conference for 25 years. Three years ago, the difficult diagnosis of diabetes, which runs in my family, caught up with me. I was surprised and found myself trying to grasp for resources regarding the various changes needed in my life (diet, eating habits, medication, exercise, doctors, etc.).

Following Easter this year, an advertisement caught my attention in this newsletter for the Omada program. This is a FREE resource available to participants through our Conference plan. I signed up and started my six-month program on Mother’s Day.

It has been wonderful! Omada connects you with a virtual coach and specialist to help you with your goals. You can send messages to ask questions, celebrate progress, and find encouragement. You will also have access to an app that has lots of resources and helps you set goals each week. The best part? Accountability! It is harder to eat that donut in the church parlor when you are asked to record what you consume each day.

I would highly recommend checking out this program. I have received so much benefit from it over these past five months and feel much more confident in dealing with this challenge in my everyday life. Omada provides resources for those with diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and musculoskeletal issues. It can also help with weight loss and getting active. To get started, check out their website at www.omadahealth.com/miumc. No better time than the present!
