Temple UMC: Supper House 20th Anniversary Celebration
August 21 @ 12:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Supper House is a mission which began in the Temple UMC gymnasium 20 years ago. The vision to provide free nutritious evening meals to adults and children in the Muskegon Heights and Greater Muskegon community was the vision of two women, Carol McLeod and Susan Hagans. The vision was for more than just a meal. It was to become a safe haven where all were welcome without qualification. A place where belonging to community could be re-imagined and the virtue of human dignity confirmed in the smiling faces and the kind words of volunteers who nightly served meals to guests. What began with 30 guests twenty years ago rapidly grew to over 200 nightly guests. Today Supper House continues to serve an average of 125-150 meals, Monday-Friday from 4:00-5:30pm. It is supported by 26 communities of faith in the Greater Muskegon Area who provide volunteers and funding. It is a hub for shared interfaith experiences demonstrating the very best in our humanity. We invite you to come and share in this same goodness as we celebrate 20 years in mission together.
The anniversary celebration will take place in Temple’s parking lot located at 2500 Jefferson Street, Muskegon Heights, MI 49444. The day will begin with a local food truck starting at 11am, and the festivities will begin at 12pm with a service of recognition and a presentation from local government dignitaries. There will be food, live music, a bounce house, popcorn and cotton candy, and back to school items for kids. Just as with any typical day at Supper House, festivities will conclude at 5:30pm. ALL are invited! Please come help us celebrate this wonderful milestone for Supper House, that has been providing food for the body, mind and soul to ANY and ALL in the community for 20 years. Hope to see you there!
