Midwest District Workshops and Conference
October 12 @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm
The workshops are at 10am and 11am followed by lunch and the MW District Conference. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of really great workshops and a chance to socialize with other church folks during lunch followed by the district conference. There will also be a Mission Fair with display tables from a variety of Midwest District organizations.
At the Midwest District Conference you will learn the state of the district as we now operate in a new way. Listen to what’s been accomplished so far and hear about plans for the future. Click HERE to view and print the Midwest District Conference Reports Packet.
This is a FREE event, but we need to know who’s coming. Please register below or call Liz in the Midwest District Office (616.459.4503) to register and sign up for the workshops. The flyer to share is HERE.
Below is an overview about each workshop. The same four workshops will be offered at 10am and 11am, please choose one workshop for each time period when registering.
- Lay Servant Ministries (Jody Pratt, Sara Wolfsen, presenters)
Lay Servant Ministries is one of the significant lay leadership development programs available within the United Methodist connection. Through this system of equipping and empowering, lay servants have the opportunity to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ who then go and make other disciples. Lay Servant ministries can be a significant component of any discipleship system providing training in Hospitality, Offer Christ, Purpose and Engagement. Learn more about the levels of Lay Servant Ministry, including ― Certified Lay Servant, Lay Speaker and Certified Lay Minister ― by attending this workshop.
- EngageMI (Brenda DuPree, presenter)
This workshop will focus on “Ministry with,“ which is the foundational concept for the Engage MI program. Based on The United Methodist Church’s “Ministry with the Poor” area of focus, “ministry with” is grounded in Jesus’ practice of ministry, and our Wesleyan heritage. It is an invitation to move from models of “ministry to” into models of “ministry with.” Learn more about how EngageMI works by attending this workshop.
- Church Unique (Jim Noggle, presenter)
This workshop will discuss how a church can enter the Roads to Vibrancy through the creation and implementation of a Visionary Plan. The foundation of this vision framing process is based on the principles outlined in the books, Church Unique and God Dreams by Will Mancini. Jim Noggle will present an overview of this process and how churches can engage in it. Once this year long process is completed the church will have actionable plans for articulating, planning, and integrating vision into the culture. Learn more about Roads to Vibrancy by attending this workshop.
- Practical Tips for Building a Successful Worship Team (Mary Ivanov & Lake Harbor Worship Team members, presenters)
It took several years to get the Lake Harbor UMC Worship Teams moving in the right direction. During this session, we will cover the kinds of things we wish we had known from the start: how to develop a team; working with what God has given us; team guidelines; resources; useful supplies; journaling; and setting a realistic budget.
