Collection Definition

The West Michigan Conference Archives Library Collection consists of:

Michigan-Related Materials

    Definition
  • United Methodist (UM), Methodist Protestant (MP), Methodist Episcopal (ME), and Ecumenical United Brethren (EUB) materials published in Michigan; materials about the UM, MP, ME or EUB religions in Michigan, specific West Michigan Conference circuits, churches (these are currently in the Church Files), or church members and leaders; publications by UM, MP, ME, and EUB church members

History

  • These items were pre-existing in the Albion College Library’s circulating collection and in the West Michigan Conference Archives; others were acquired through donation or purchase

Status

  • Active through gift, purchase, and transfer from the Albion College Library circulating collection

Official West Michigan and General Conference Publications

    Definition
  • Official publications of the Michigan ME Conference, Michigan EUB Conference, Michigan MP Conference, West Michigan Conference, Detroit Conference or General Conference; including reports, publications of minutes, Disciplines, hymnals, etc.

    • These items were pre-existing in the West Michigan Conference Archives, and the Albion College Bible Collection; others were acquired through donation or gift

Publications for General Church Distribution

Definition

    • Religious materials produced by UM, ME, MP, and EUB publishing houses for the purpose of pastoral professional development or congregational distribution

Definition

    • Those items not included under the West Michigan Conference Archives Library Collection description; published prior to 1876 and covered by the standard Americana bibliographies (US-iana/Howe, Sabin, American Bibliography Series – Kelly, Roorbach, Evans, Shaw, Shoemaker, Cooper) will be considered for inclusion in this collection. Materials post-1876 will be selected based upon their condition and scarcity.

Duplicates already in the Albion College Library circulating collection, the West Michigan Conference Archives Library, and the Archives Office, if appropriate
